Craftstone selected to supply Schist Clad to Auckland zoo upgrade.

Te Wao Nui is a new $16m precinct development project at Auckland Zoo and is the largest ever undertaken in the zoo's 87-year history. Opening up previously undeveloped areas of the zoo's footprint, Te Wao Nui will offer local and international visitors alike a unique experience of New Zealand's fauna, flora and culture.

Te Wao Nui will offer a journey through six ecological environments – The Forest, The Islands, The Coast, The Wetlands, The Night Forest, and The High Country, and feature 60 New Zealand animal species and over 110 New Zealand plant species. Presenting New Zealand's flora, fauna and culture in a way that has never been done before, Te Wao Nui will offer an incredible opportunity to experience New Zealand's natural world in one location at Auckland Zoo

Craftstone have been selected to supply their new Schist Clad natural stone veneers to build stone walls and buildings as part of this project.

“ We are extremely happy to have been selected to provide our latest product offering to this project. They wanted to use real stone but had a time frame for completion and a price target that would have been difficult to achieve with whole stone but we were able to offer significant advantages using Schist Clad. Using the Schist Clad veneer system they can still use real stone but because of the ease and speed of installation there are significant cost savings over using traditional stone.” says Craftstone General Manager Hamish Munro.

Schist Clad is a real stone medium weight stone cladding that can be laid over Eterpan fibre cement sheet, concrete block, tilt slab, some AAC concrete products as well as any structurally sound brick wall.

Schist Clad comes in a range of three colours: Basalt Grey, Coromandel Green and Cape Brown.

We will keep you updated as the project progresses.

Magnificent New Home from Maddren Homes.

This recently completed home built by Maddren Homes for a very important client enjoys stunning views out across Orewa. Views stretch out as far as the Barrier. With a balcony positioned at the back of the house to capture the view and the early morning sun, it's the perfect spot to enjoy long summer days. The client chose to use Craftstone Schist Clad Cape Brown natural stone veneer to cover their two story pillars with great effect. With glass balustrades and the stone pillars this gives a great finish. This house features the two stone pillars at the back of the house as well as two stone columns at the front entrance way.
