Love the look of Schist but don't love the cost? Any moulded stone veneer is simply an attempt to create the look of real stone but at a more affordable price. The reality is however that no moulded stone can ever replicate the rugged beauty & feel of the real thing. We decided that the answer was to cut real stone, real thin. Not as easy as it sounds!
The result is the stunning Craftstone Schist Clad range of natural stone cladding. Schist Clad is individual pieces of stone, every piece unique, that can be glued onto your wall in the manner of a tile. Yes you can now get real stone with all its inherrant advantages, and at a price competitive with any good quality manufactured veneer, at generally less than half the price of traditional schist cladding. Quality is guaranteed by Mother Nature! As one second generation traditional stonemason recently commented - "this is just what the market has been waiting for!".

Q: Is this real stone?
A: Yes, Schist Clad is real stone.
Q: Is Schist Clad expensive?
A: Not at all. Schist Clad is a cost effective alternative to expensive traditional schist applications and is even comparable in price to many manufactured stone veneers. Schist Clad will also save you big bucks due to the speed and ease of installation. No extra footings needed! Schist Clad is simply glued to the wall in the manner of a tile.
Q: Can anyone lay it?
A: Any competent handyperson / tradesperson can lay Schist Clad however for best results, (and the full 15 Year System Warranty), we recommend using a Licensed Craftstone Applicator.
Q: How heavy is Schist Clad?
A: Approximately 60kg per m2
Q: Does Schist Clad need to be sealed?
A: In most cases sealing is not necessary however we do recommend it be applied in some circumstances. Where stone is exposed to chemicals, such as around swimming pools, or coastal areas where there is moist salt air it would be recommended for stones containing iron to be sealed. If you choose to seal your stone we recommend that you use a penetrating sealer.
Q: What substrate do I use?
A: 9mm Eterpan by PBS or other fibre-cement sheet as approved by Craftstone NZ Ltd. Schist Clad may also be glued onto concrete blocks, tilt slab, some AAC concrete products as well as any structurally sound brick wall.
